2009 was a fantastic year for core crew of TEAM ADVENTURE and 2010 looks to be even better.
Cam Lewis, always on the move, started out the year racing on CREAM, a gunboat 48 catamaran in the RORC 600, a fun regatta in the Caribbean.
In September Cam joined Hugo Stenbeck and his crew on Sophie II to race in the 6 meter World Championships in Newport, Rhode Island. After an amazingly close and hard fought battle Sophie II came out victorious. Next is was the Maxi Transatlantic Race on the Super Yacht, SOJANA sailing from Tenerife to St Maarten.
2010 Started off with big plans to continue to look into opportunities in the sailing world, with the Extreme 40 class on a world tour, a new One Design 70 Multihull project launching out of Switzerland, and the desire to break all ocean sailing records with a new mega Giant Multihull.
In December Cam was a featured speaker at the Sailing Sponsorship Forum in Monaco.
As the world turns its attention back on Valencia, Spain, and the America’s Cup, Cam is once more in the middle of the action. This time he is not out on the water; instead Cam is behind a microphone working with the Host Television Broadcast Team from IMG to cover the action. He is joining sailing broadcasting legends Peter Montgomery and Andy Green and will be commentating on one of the most exciting match races ever; the best-out-of-five showdown between Alinghi, the defender, and Oracle BMW, the American challenger. After two years of legal wrangling, the action is about to begin.
Larry Rosenfeld meanwhile sailed with his son and 20 Bermudian teenagers on the 120’ sail training vessel, Spirit of Bermuda in a leg of the tall ships race from Bermuda to Charleston. (www.bermudasloop.org) The Bermuda Sloop Foundation has been in operation for 3 years and taken a thousand kids sailing. Every 14 year old on the island spends a week aboard during the winter learning about their island and teamwork with others on the sea. Larry also navigated aboard INTREPID, the two time winner of the America’s Cup during the summer.
Brian Hancock, always ready to tell a good story, finished his memoir Grabbing the World. The book will be released in March 2010.
